About

We are a team of seasoned graphics professionals and filmmakers who are excited to launch a new way of making movies.
Our vision is to create a decentralized filmmaking process where creative direction and profit share are shared by all contributors.
We believe that VFX-heavy and animated movies can now be made by small teams of VFX artists. These artists, who typically get involved at the end of the production process, can be much more efficient when they co-develop the IP from the beginning.
By using modern real-time tools assisted by AI, we can optimize the workflow and make it possible for smaller teams or even individuals to create high-quality VFX. DRKSTAR is a concept project as we explore this new realm. We welcome anyone with an interest in VFX, animation and filmmaking to be part of this.
We provide all the assets and the UE5-based real-time software Replikant to get you started.
Together, we can create a new era of filmmaking that is more collaborative, efficient, and accessible.

Synopsis

Troy is a young man who is having recurring nightmares about being attacked by machines. He soon discovers that these nightmares are actually visions of a parallel world called the Metaverse, where he is a warrior fighting against the Fallen, a race of machines that are trying to take over the world.

With the help of Gabriella, a mysterious woman who is also fighting against the Fallen, Troy must learn to master his new abilities in order to save the Metaverse and the real world from the Fallen's wrath.

The film is a mix of action, science fiction, and fantasy, and it explores themes of good vs. evil, light vs. dark, and the power of the human spirit.

It is a story that will stay with you long after you have seen it and will evolve over time as the future strands are developed.

Troy

Meet Troy, the protagonist of the short film "DRKSTAR". Troy is a young man who finds himself thrust into a virtual reality world where he must fight off robotic creatures known as "The Fallen" with the help of a mysterious, sword-wielding woman named Gabriella. Troy is a skilled fighter, utilizing Kali Escrima style techniques to evade and defeat his enemies. However, his battle for survival in the virtual realm is just the beginning of his journey.

As the story unfolds, Troy is ultimately guided by higher powers that show him that our solar system that's controlled by AI. Troy and Gabriella, they must fight off the machine takeover of earth.

But the question remains, are humans too far entwined with computer technology to be entirely free of the AI? Troy and Gabriella must work together to uncover the truth and save humanity from a fate controlled by technology.

The Fallen

The Fallen are a race of malevolent beings that are the central antagonists of the short film. They are the opposite of what humanity strives for, embodying evil, darkness, and a partial machine-like nature. The Fallen are responsible for the machine takeover of Earth and the destruction they have caused in their wake.

These creatures are relentless in their pursuit of power and domination over humanity, they are the embodiment of the negative consequences of technology and the dangers of becoming too entwined with machines. Their presence in the film serves as a warning to the characters, and to the audience, of the dangers of losing control over technology. The question remains: are humans too far entwined with computer technology to be entirely free of the AI? The Fallen's actions and their ultimate fate in the film will leave the audience questioning the nature of technology, the consequences of its misuse and the potential for humanity to overcome it.

Gabriella

Meet Gabriella, the powerful and mysterious ally of Troy in the short film "DRKSTAR". Gabriella is Troy's girlfriend, a creature of light who has already fully transcended the astral planes. She is the one who guides Troy on his final journey in the virtual realm, wielding a fiery sword that she uses to defeat the robotic creatures known as "The Fallen". Gabriella is majestic, friendly, and fully aware, the embodiment of pure energy and grace.

She represents the opposite of the machines and their cold, mechanical nature. Gabriella's presence in the film is not only a source of strength for Troy, but also a reminder of the power of the human spirit and the potential for transcendence. Gabriella's abilities and background remain a mystery, but one thing is clear: she is a force to be reckoned with and a powerful ally in the battle against the machines.

Production Notes

As we continue to work on the production of Darkstar, we'll be sharing regular updates on our progress in the form of production notes. These notes will provide an inside look at various aspects of the film's development, from special effects and production design to the challenges of working remotely.

In our first set of production notes, we'll be focusing on the development process and how we're using Replikant to work in real-time 3D. We'll also touch on how this real-time workflow is impacting our approach to special effects and how it's saving us a lot of time.

In future production notes, we'll delve deeper into other aspects of the production, such as the challenges of creating a believable world and designing the creatures that inhabit it. We'll also give a behind-the-scenes look at the costume and prop design, and the role of the production designer in shaping the overall aesthetic of the film.

We're excited to share these updates with you and give you a glimpse into the making of Darkstar. If you're interested in following the progress of the film, make sure to keep an eye out for our production notes. We'll be sharing them regularly on our website and social media channels.

The Making of Darkstar: An Inside Look at the Special Effects and Production Design

Making a movie is a complex process that requires the collaboration of many talented individuals. From development to special effects to production design, each element plays an important role in bringing a film to life. In this blog post, we'll take a behind-the-scenes look at the special effects and production design of the upcoming sci-fi film Darkstar. Before starting on a feature-length film, it's common practice to first create a short film that acts as a test. This allows the team to experiment with different ideas and techniques, and to fine-tune their approach before committing to the full-length production. Darkstar was no exception, the team began with a short film that served as a test before they started on the feature. For the short film, everything was created in real-time 3D using Replikant, a content creation tool built on top of the Unreal Engine. This allowed the team to quickly iterate and make changes in real-time, giving them the flexibility to experiment with different ideas and techniques. The development process of Darkstar began with an idea to create a new take on the sci-fi genre that would subvert expectations and challenge conventions. Once the core concept was in place, the team began fleshing out the details of the story, the characters, and the world they would inhabit.

What is Procedural Content?

Procedural content refers to any type of content that is automatically generated by a computer program instead of created by a human. This can include things like 3D models, text, and audio. One of the main advantages of using procedural content is that it can be easily modified or updated. For example, if you need to update a 3D model in a game, instead of manually editing the model, you can simply modify the parameters of the program that generated the model, which saves time and effort.Additionally, because it is generated by a computer program, it can produce an infinite variety of results by tweaking the parameters of the generation process. This is useful for things like generating terrain in video games and millions of different characters. Creating procedurally-generated music or generating realistic-sounding dialogue is also very useful.Another advantage of procedural content is that it can be created in large quantities quickly. This is useful for things like generating terrain in video games or generating realistic-sounding dialogue. This can save time, resources and effort. However procedural systems can take a long time to create. However the ability to create an infinite variety of results and it is useful for many applications. It's worth considering if you're looking for a way to quickly generate large quantities of high-quality content.
